1997 TOYOTA CAMRY ENGINE OIL LEAK AND POWER STEERING PUMP FIX.
We received a visit by a customer with the above named vehicle model.
He complained about the depletion in gauge of his engine oil.
He keeps topping up at frequent intervals. We identified with his concerns and thanked him for his alertness else the engine oil would have gone below minimum mark and could lead to engine overheating and complete knocking due to heat, friction of metal parts, and lack of lubrication in moving metal components within the engine.
So to solve his problems, we traced the leaks....First, we saw leaks from the valve top cover oil seals on both banks of the V6 engine (bank1 and bank2).
Secondly, we observed engine oil smears everywhere on the transmission. Upon loosening the starter motor, engine oil dripped out from there as well.
Upon further observation, we concluded that the engine oil seal (a seal behind the flex plate) located inbetween the engine and transmission needs to be changed.
So we set out to work by removing the transmission and changing the seal!!
Lastly, we also change and bled his power steering pump.
